Research Assistant (RA2) – Hydraulics & River Modeling

About the role

We are seeking a Research Assistant (RA2) to support Prof. Gaskin’s work on river confluence mixing and hydraulic modelling. The role involves literature review, field data collection, and model validation within a part‑time, 18‑hour per week schedule.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct literature review of numerical models of river confluence mixing.
• Investigate parameters affecting the mixing layer in the depth‑averaged TELEMAC river model.
• Perform field studies to acquire velocity profiles across the mixing layer using an ADV.
• Validate the numerical model and identify modelling constraints.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Civil Engineering (hydraulics) or Integrated Water Resources Management, with relevant internship project.
• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering.
• Knowledge of depth‑averaged river flow modelling (TELEMAC) and GIS.
• Ability to operate scientific instruments, collect and record data, and work collaboratively.
• Strong communication skills in English (level 4) and knowledge of French.

Required skills

• TELEMAC hydraulic modelling software.
• Geographic Information Systems (GIS).
• Acoustic Doppler Velocimeter (ADV) for field measurements.
