Registered Technologist - Laboratory

About the role

Sault Area Hospital is hiring two Registered Technologists for its laboratory, on a permanent full-time basis. The position covers performing laboratory tests, collecting specimens and reporting results to Patient Care Providers, with interpretation where required, within the parameters set by the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists and other applicable regulators. The salary range is $38.80 to $52.91 per hour.

Key responsibilities

• Perform laboratory procedures as outlined in department manuals, following hospital and laboratory policies.
• Work in one or more laboratory subsections such as Transfusion Services, Clinical Chemistry, Microbiology, Histology and Hematology.
• Stay current in laboratory medicine and take part in continuing education programs required by the CMLTO or other regulators.
• Communicate with Patient Care Providers and exercise independent judgment in specimen procurement, analysis, reporting and interpretation.
• Carry out other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• A bachelor's degree in a chemical, physical or biological science from a university approved by the Director, with at least one year of employment as a laboratory technician in an approved laboratory; or recognition as a technologist by a Canadian, British or American technologist society; or a diploma as a laboratory technologist from an Ontario community college; or equivalent education or experience approved by the Director.
• At least one year of related work experience in a laboratory setting, including a CSMLS-approved training program with a one-year clinical component.
