Registered Nurse – Outpatient Surgery (Day Surgery)

About the role

The Winnipeg Regional Health Authority is seeking a Registered Nurse to join the Day Surgery team at Victoria General Hospital. The RN will provide professional nursing care to out‑patient surgical patients, including those recovering from anesthesia and those with complex health needs.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver independent nursing services in the post‑anesthesia (Phase 2) recovery area.
• Administer prescribed medical treatments and medications safely.
• Lead and coordinate the healthcare team to ensure seamless patient care and discharge planning.
• Maintain compliance with all regional policies, procedures, and legislative acts.
• Document care accurately and uphold professional standards of practice.

Required profile

• At least one year of current post‑anesthesia and surgical nursing experience.
• Experience in outpatient surgery; endoscopy, cystoscopy, minor procedures and ECT are preferred.
• Graduate of an approved Registered Nursing program.
• Certification in Conscious Sedation; ACLS preferred.
• Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.

Required skills

• Knowledge of CRNM Standards of Practice and Canadian Nurses Association Code of Ethics.
• Understanding of RHPA scope of practice and relevant provincial legislation (PHIA, WHMIS, etc.).
• Proficiency in delegation principles and interdisciplinary teamwork.
• Ability to communicate effectively in an Indigenous language or knowledge of Indigenous customs is an asset.
