Refining Engineer (Markham)

About the role

Umicore is seeking a Refining Engineer to join its Markham site, supporting the production of precious metals and related processes. The role involves troubleshooting, process optimisation and ensuring safe, compliant operations across a range of refining equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Diagnose and resolve issues on sweeps, melting furnaces, gold‑refining lines, wastewater treatment and assay stations.
• Run trials, manage metal balances and oversee process‑improvement projects.
• Handle CAPEX quotes, commission new equipment and support customer‑complaint investigations.
• Participate in EHS risk assessments, HAZOP studies and maintain compliance with safety and environmental standards.
• Provide technical support to team leads, assayers and chemical operators as needed.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
• 3‑4 years of experience in chemical manufacturing or metal refining.
• Strong mechanical aptitude, good communication and organisational skills.
• Ability to work safely in a hot environment and meet deadlines.

Required skills
