Railroad Operator – Track Maintenance

About the role
Reporting to the Railway Supervisor, the Railroad Operator is responsible for maintaining safe and efficient track infrastructure. The role involves cleaning and adjusting switches, frogs and crossings, as well as installing and replacing ties, rails, anchors and other track components.
Key responsibilities
- Inspect and tighten splice bars and perform other track maintenance tasks.
- Gauge and line tracks, apply anchors, and check for broken rails or abnormalities.
- Inspect and keep culverts and ditches clean.
- Observe passing trains and promptly report any serious defects.
- Cut brush and maintain a clear right-of-way.
- Repair track geometry defects.
- Train on and operate track maintenance machinery as required.
- Perform lock-out and flagging duties when needed.
Required profile
- Willingness to work rotating shift schedules, including Monday‑Friday 8‑hour shifts.
- Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- Successful completion of CAAT and DAT testing.
- Ability to undergo a physical‑demands analysis.
Required skills
- Proficiency with hand tools such as shovels, picks, rail tongs, bars, track jacks, sledgehammers and spike mauls.
- Experience operating pneumatic tools and track maintenance machinery.
- Knowledge of lock‑out and flagging procedures.
