Postdoctoral Research Fellow – Nutrition and Metabolism

About the role

The Department of Medicine at the University of British Columbia seeks a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join a translational program investigating how ovarian sex hormones influence appetite, energy intake, and energy expenditure in humans.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to the design, protocol development, and implementation of human nutrition and metabolism studies.
• Conduct dietary assessments (weighed records, 3‑day food records) and energy‑expenditure measurements (resting metabolic rate, total energy expenditure).
• Oversee physiological data collection, including appetite ratings, indirect calorimetry, body‑composition analysis, and blood/biological sample handling.
• Analyze relationships between estradiol, progesterone and metabolic outcomes using advanced statistical methods such as linear mixed models.
• Prepare manuscripts, abstracts, and present findings at national and international conferences.
• Contribute to grant applications and funding proposals.

Required profile

• Post‑doctoral level researcher with experience in human nutrition, metabolism, or related biomedical research.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team spanning nutrition, exercise physiology, and endocrinology.
• Strong analytical mindset and excellent scientific communication skills.
