About the role

The University of British Columbia is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to investigate public perceptions of climate‑mitigating technologies within energy transition pathways. The fellow will join interdisciplinary teams led by Terre Satterfield, Sara Nawaz, and Holly Caggiano, focusing on the social impacts and governance of carbon dioxide removal (CDR) technologies, especially in marine and coastal settings.

Key responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement surveys to assess attitudes toward CDR and related energy transition scenarios.
  • Conduct qualitative research, including interviews and focus groups, to complement quantitative findings.
  • Analyze data using statistical methods and produce reports, conference presentations, and peer‑reviewed publications.
  • Collaborate with faculty, postdoctoral peers, graduate and undergraduate students throughout the research cycle.
  • Contribute to interdisciplinary project planning, coordination, and evaluation.

Required profile

  • PhD completed in a social or behavioural science discipline with strong training in survey design and statistical analysis.
  • Experience conducting independent qualitative research (e.g., interviews, focus groups) is highly valued.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in interdisciplinary academic environments.
