Postdoctoral Research Fellow – Developmental Cell Biology

About the role
The Sugioka Lab at the University of British Columbia is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to investigate developmental control of cell division and the cytoskeleton using the C. elegans embryo.
Key responsibilities
- Lead projects on cortical actomyosin flow and its impact on embryonic morphogenesis, asymmetric cell division and left‑right asymmetry.
- Design and perform experiments using C. elegans genetics, live imaging, quantitative image analysis and molecular perturbations.
- Develop independent research directions in collaboration with the supervisor.
- Mentor undergraduate and graduate students and contribute to a collaborative lab environment.
Required profile
- Ph.D. in Cell Biology, Developmental Biology, Biophysics, Genetics, Molecular Biology or a related field (final‑year PhD candidates are also eligible).
- Strong background in cell or developmental biology and genetics.
- Experience with molecular biology techniques, live imaging and image analysis.
- Demonstrated research productivity and effective scientific communication.

What we offer
- Salary range CAD $60,000–70,000 per year plus benefits.
- Fixed‑term appointment from September 2026 to February 2028.
