Postdoctoral Research Fellow – Bioinformatics (Maternal Health)

About the role

The University of British Columbia is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Bioinformatician) to join the Salker Laboratory. The fellow will work on cutting‑edge multi‑omics projects aimed at improving maternal and infant health, collaborating with clinicians and scientists across obstetrics, neonatology, genomics, and computational biology.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and maintain bioinformatics pipelines for bulk and single‑cell RNA‑seq, cell‑free RNA, DNA methylation, proteomics and other multi‑omics datasets.
• Integrate molecular and clinical data to discover biomarkers linked to adverse pregnancy and neonatal outcomes.
• Apply statistical modelling, machine learning, network analysis and systems biology approaches to large‑scale datasets.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams at BC Children’s Hospital Research Institute and Women’s Hospital, mentoring trainees and contributing to grant applications.
• Lead independent research questions, publish high‑impact papers and pursue postdoctoral funding.

Required profile

• PhD in computational biology, biomedicine, women’s health research or a related field.
• Strong publication record as first author and experience with reproducible bioinformatics pipelines.
• Excellent organization, communication and teamwork skills, with a commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion.
