Postdoctoral Fellow – 129Xe MRI Pulmonary Imaging

About the role

The University of British Columbia’s Eddy Lab in the Department of Radiology seeks a full‑time Postdoctoral Fellow to develop novel hyperpolarized 129Xe MRI acquisition techniques for pulmonary imaging. The position is based on‑site at the UBC Centre for Heart Lung Innovation within St. Paul’s Hospital.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement, and optimise rapid 129Xe MRI pulse sequences and associated image reconstruction pipelines.
• Supervise undergraduate and junior graduate students, as well as laboratory technicians.
• Prepare and submit funding proposals, write research manuscripts, and present findings at conferences.
• Collaborate with Siemens Healthcare Limited and a multidisciplinary team of imaging scientists, engineers, MRI technologists, physicians, and trainees.

Required profile

• PhD in engineering, physics, or a related discipline completed within the last five years.
• Strong publication record with at least one first‑author paper.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

Required skills

• Experience with MRI pulse‑sequence development, especially multi‑nuclear sequences.
• Familiarity with Siemens MR IDEA Sequence Development Environment (SDE) and Image Calculation Environment (ICE).
• Proficiency in Python and MATLAB for image reconstruction and data analysis.
• Knowledge of deep‑learning techniques applied to MRI data.
