Part-Time Maintenance Attendant for Community Centres

About the role

The Town of Whitby is seeking a part‑time Attendant I to maintain its community centres and library facilities. You will ensure clean, safe, and welcoming environments for patrons while providing courteous customer service.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine cleaning of public washrooms, changerooms, and common areas.
• Set up, take down, and clean facility spaces according to booking schedules.
• Provide front‑line customer service to the public and rental groups.
• Maintain exterior areas, including garbage removal, snow removal, and salting.
• Respond to inquiries, assist staff, and mitigate safety risks.
• Provide direction, training, and advice to part‑time staff.
• Assist with additional duties as required.

Required profile

• Self‑motivated and solutions‑oriented team member.
• Clear, concise communicator who listens attentively and asks clarifying questions.
• Uses sound judgment with tact, diplomacy, and discretion when dealing with the public.
• Eager to learn and foster a collaborative work environment.

Required skills

• Ontario Secondary School Diploma.
• At least twelve (12) months of experience in recreation facilities.
• Standard First Aid and CPR‑C certification (in good standing).
• Working knowledge of facility operations, equipment, and maintenance procedures.
• Ability to use tools and equipment safely.
• Ability to lift heavy objects.
• Valid Class “G” driver’s licence.
• Valid Vulnerable Sector police check.
