About the role

The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at McGill University seeks a distinguished scholar to serve as the Pamela Stewart Visiting Professor in Italian Studies for the Winter 2027 term. The appointment is a semester‑long, fixed‑term position designed to enrich the department’s academic life and expand its curricular offerings.

Key responsibilities

• Teach two undergraduate or graduate courses in Italian Studies, selected in consultation with the department.
• Develop and deliver a public lecture, workshop, seminar, or other student‑facing event.
• Participate in departmental meetings, seminars, and other scholarly activities.
• Mentor students and contribute to the intellectual community on campus.

Required profile

• Hold a ranked academic appointment (or equivalent) at another university.
• Possess a PhD or equivalent terminal degree in Italian Studies or a closely related field.
• Demonstrated record of scholarly excellence and ability to attract broad student interest.

Required skills

• Expertise in Italian language, literature, or culture.
• Curriculum design and course development.
