About the role

The Department of Languages, Literatures, and Cultures at McGill University seeks a tenure‑track Assistant Professor in Russian Studies. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary faculty, contributing to teaching, research, and program development in Russian literature and culture.

Key responsibilities

  • Teach a broad range of undergraduate and graduate courses covering 19th‑ and 20th‑century Russian literature and culture.
  • Develop and sustain the Russian Studies program through curriculum design and interdisciplinary initiatives.
  • Maintain an active research agenda with publications in relevant fields.
  • Participate in departmental service, including committee work and student mentorship.
  • Engage in collaborative research across disciplines such as media studies, environmental humanities, and post‑colonial studies.

Required profile

  • PhD in Russian Studies or a closely related discipline, completed by the appointment date.
  • Demonstrated record of scholarly research and publication, or clear potential for such output.
  • Excellence in university‑level teaching, with experience in course design.
  • Proficiency in Russian and English suitable for academic instruction and research.
  • Ability to contribute to a multicultural, interdisciplinary department.
