Occupational Health & Safety Specialist – 1 Year Temporary

About the role

The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) is seeking an Occupational Health and Safety Specialist on a one‑year temporary basis. You will apply your expertise to provide clear, evidence‑based answers to health and safety inquiries and help translate technical information into practical resources for Canadian workplaces.

Key responsibilities

• Respond to occupational health and safety questions from employers and workers, delivering accurate and timely information.
• Gather, evaluate, and synthesize scientific and technical data on workplace health and safety.
• Develop and edit content for fact sheets, e‑courses, presentations, publications and other CCOHS communication tools.
• Conduct research, perform quality assurance, and provide constructive feedback on drafted materials.
• Collaborate with the Inquiries Services team to ensure comprehensive and consistent service delivery.

Required profile

• Post‑secondary degree in a science discipline with a specialization in occupational health and safety.
• Three to five years of experience in the health and safety field.
• Knowledge of health and safety legislation, standards, and guidelines; familiarity with hygiene, toxicology, chemistry, or organizational health is an asset.
• Experience interpreting and applying relevant legislation and standards.
• Strong communication skills, including the ability to discuss inquiries by phone or in person with diplomacy and tact.
• Desirable: CRSP and/or CIH/ROH designation, adult‑learning principles, bilingual ability (English/French).
