Mental Health Specialist – Youth Employment Program

About the role

The Mental Health Specialist provides individual therapeutic support to youth whose mental health needs impact their ability to obtain and maintain employment. The role works collaboratively with Youth Employment Coaches and CJHS Mental Health and Addictions Specialists to stabilize participants, address trauma, support emotional regulation, and reduce barriers to workforce attachment.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver one‑on‑one therapeutic services focused on employment outcomes for high‑risk youth.
• Collaborate with Youth Employment Coaches and mental health/addictions specialists to create integrated support plans.
• Provide crisis intervention, workplace accommodations, and coordinate with external systems as needed.
• Embed mental‑health support within the employment program to ensure alignment with job retention goals.

Required profile

• Master’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, or a related clinical field.
• Registration (or eligibility for registration) with a recognized Alberta professional regulatory body.
• Minimum three years of experience delivering therapeutic services to youth or young adults.
• Experience conducting assessments and writing clear psychological reports.
• Understanding of trauma, anxiety, depression, substance use, and neurodevelopmental disorders.
• Experience working with justice‑involved or housing‑unstable youth is a strong asset.
• Ability to provide crisis intervention, risk assessment, and safety planning focused on employment outcomes.
• Comfort working in interdisciplinary, outreach‑based environments.
