Mechanical Engineer Intern

About the role

Join Aecon's Civil East sector as a Mechanical Engineer Intern and work alongside experienced professionals to support mechanical engineering tasks on complex infrastructure projects. This 12‑month work term offers hands‑on experience in calculations, design documentation, and field activities.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with mechanical engineering assignments of limited to moderate complexity, including calculations, bill of materials and basic CAD drawings.
• Support plant data gathering, field walkdowns and maintain detailed design document files.
• Coordinate mechanical scopes of work across facilities and systems, and help plan and sequence mechanical activities in line with project schedules.
• Review M&E drawings, specifications, shop drawings and RFIs to identify conflicts, constructability issues and interface risks.
• Track and report progress of installations, inspections and deficiencies, and support testing, commissioning and turnover documentation.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in a Mechanical Engineering degree program.
• Completed coursework in thermodynamics; power engineering and HVAC knowledge preferred.
• Strong technical writing, presentation and communication abilities.
• Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Experience using Autodesk AutoCAD or similar CAD software.
• Ability to work independently and within a team, managing multiple tasks under pressure.
