Civil Engineer Intern

About the role

Join Aecon’s Civil East sector as a Civil Engineer Intern and work alongside experienced professionals on infrastructure projects such as bridges, highways, tunnels and airports. The 12‑month term provides hands‑on experience in cost monitoring, material procurement and project coordination.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare simple plans, designs, calculations, cost estimates and bills of material following codes and specifications.
• Support project cost monitoring, material supply tracking and scheduling.
• Assist in interpreting plans, detail sheets and specifications for contractors.
• Manage purchases of project‑specific materials and equipment, including vendor relations and invoice processing.
• Help prepare bids, proposals and generate RFIs/NCRs for design changes.
• Participate in setting up cost code structures and coordinating estimating with site teams.

Required profile

• Currently enrolled in a Civil Engineering or related degree program.
• Ability to read and understand construction drawings and contract documents.
• Self‑motivated with strong organizational and communication skills.
• Valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel as required.

Required skills

• Interpretation of construction drawings and specifications.
• Basic knowledge of contract language, bonding and job cost fundamentals.
• Familiarity with preparing RFIs and NCRs.
