Mechanical Designer (Hybrid – Halifax, NS)

About the role

We are seeking a Mechanical Designer to join Moog’s Halifax team on a hybrid schedule. You will contribute to the design of electromechanical, optical and fluid‑swivel products used in demanding marine, defence and industrial applications.

Key responsibilities

• Evaluate and select materials and components suitable for marine and subsea environments.
• Develop conceptual and detailed 3‑D models using CAD software and associated design tools.
• Prepare, maintain and verify design documentation including drawings, specifications, bills of materials and reports.
• Perform structural and pressure‑rating calculations and finite‑element analyses for subsea applications.
• Define test requirements, equipment and safety measures for component and product validation.
• Review design documents for completeness, accuracy and compliance with applicable codes and standards.
• Interpret and apply relevant industry rules, specifications and codes.
• Provide technical assistance to cross‑functional teams throughout the product development cycle.

Required profile

• Strong interest in engineering and innovative product design.
• Motivation to work hands‑on with design, testing and multidisciplinary collaboration.
• Ability to work in a hybrid environment and communicate effectively with team members.

Required skills

• Proficiency with 3‑D CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, CATIA).
• Experience with finite‑element analysis (FEA) for structural and pressure calculations.
• Knowledge of material selection for marine/subsea applications.
• Familiarity with creating and managing drawings, specifications and bills of materials.
• Understanding of industry standards, codes and specifications relevant to marine and subsea equipment.
