Manager, Data Platform Architect - Data & AI

About the role

Toast is recruiting on behalf of a global professional services firm with thousands of people across Canada for a Manager, Data Platform Architect to join its Data and AI practice in Calgary or Vancouver. The practice is one of the firm's fastest growing, helping organizations get the most out of the lakehouse model, with a focus on Databricks and Microsoft Fabric, to build trustworthy, secure and scalable AI. You will lead the architecture and delivery of end-to-end data and AI solutions, mentor a team of engineers and data scientists, and help win and shape new client work.

Key responsibilities

• Partner with cross-functional engagement teams to turn business and analytics needs into a clear data, analytics and AI strategy.
• Architect end-to-end data and analytics solutions across data lakes, warehouses, lakehouses and pipelines on Microsoft Fabric, Databricks and Snowflake, primarily on Azure, with AWS and GCP.
• Lead deployment and delivery through design, build, testing and launch, with a focus on quality and operational excellence.
• Design modern data foundations including streaming and batch pipelines, medallion architecture, semantic layers and data products.
• Lead the design and implementation of CI/CD pipelines for application, data and AI workloads.
• Analyze, troubleshoot and resolve issues on existing modern data platforms.
• Mentor a team of data engineers, software developers and data scientists.
• Drive pre-sales activity including partner collaboration, proposals, RFP responses, demos, proofs of concept and technical storytelling.
• Build accelerators, ingestion frameworks, CI/CD and MLOps templates, and platform standards.
• Own project scoping, estimation and task planning, and embed data management best practices across architecture, modeling, master data, metadata, security, privacy, data quality, operations and integration.

Required profile

• 8+ years of consulting experience leading data engineering, analytics and AI initiatives, including architecture, design and implementation of complex, scalable data platforms.
• Hands-on expertise with Databricks and Microsoft Fabric across the full data and analytics lifecycle.
• Cloud proficiency in Azure, AWS or GCP, including identity, networking, security and integration with data services.
• Strong delivery leadership, including estimation, planning and stakeholder communication.
• Experience leading diverse teams and managing multiple engagements and stakeholder expectations.
• Relevant certifications in Databricks, Fabric or cloud architecture.

Required skills

• Expert skills in SQL, Python and distributed data processing.
• Deep understanding of data management, including architecture, engineering, governance and data quality.
• Ability to translate business needs into practical, cost-effective technical solutions.
