Legal Counsel – Corporate & Commercial Law (13‑month Contract)

About the role

Export Development Canada (EDC) is seeking a corporate and commercial lawyer to join its Legal Services team. The role is a 13‑month contract and will support EDC’s financial products, procurement, and marketing activities while working in a hybrid environment.

Key responsibilities

• Provide legal advice and representation for loans, investments, insurance, and other financial transactions.
• Draft, review, and negotiate contracts related to corporate, commercial, procurement and marketing matters.
• Identify and mitigate legal risks associated with EDC’s product offerings and business operations.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure compliance with Canadian corporate law and regulatory requirements.
• Support the Legal Services team in delivering timely, client‑oriented legal solutions.

Required profile

• Qualified lawyer with experience in corporate and commercial law.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.

Required skills

• Legal research and analysis.
• Contract drafting and negotiation.
• Knowledge of Canadian corporate and financial regulations.
• Understanding of loan, investment, and insurance products.
