Legal Counsel and Negotiator

About the role

The Health Employers Association of British Columbia (HEABC) is seeking a Legal Counsel and Negotiator to join its Medical Staff Services team. This role supports the negotiation and administration of physician and medical staff contracts, providing legal advice on related policy and labour‑relation matters.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and support negotiations for physician and medical staff agreements across BC health authorities.
• Provide legal analysis and advice on the Physician Master Agreement, related legislation, and contractual disputes.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of lawyers, negotiators, and HR professionals to develop negotiation strategies.
• Represent HEABC or provincial health authorities in dispute resolution processes.
• Monitor legislative changes and advise on policy implications for health‑care labour relations.

Required profile

• Member or eligible for membership of the Law Society of British Columbia, or a master’s degree in a related discipline.
• Seven to ten years recent experience in negotiation, labour relations, or health‑care law.
• Demonstrated ability to negotiate complex collective agreements.
• Strong analytical and written communication skills.

Required skills
