Legal Assistant / Paralegal – In‑House Legal Team

About the role

The Legal Assistant/Paralegal will support Costco Canada’s legal department across litigation, compliance, commercial contracts, and employment matters. You will work closely with internal business partners and external counsel to ensure timely and accurate legal support.

Key responsibilities

• Assist all phases of litigation, including file opening, document collection, discovery, witness coordination, and trial preparation.
• Draft, review, and edit legal documents such as settlement agreements, contract termination notices, and confidentiality agreements.
• Manage the NDA process and respond promptly to emails from Costco warehouses and outside counsel.
• Conduct legal research, due‑diligence, and support special projects aimed at modernising internal processes.
• Maintain paper and electronic filing systems, update litigation, employment, commercial and regulatory databases, and generate reports.
• Coordinate matters assigned to outside counsel, handle subpoenas, litigation hold notices, and track budgets and deadlines.
• Communicate regularly by phone and email with internal colleagues and external counsel, and refer matters when lawyers are unavailable.

Required profile

• Minimum 2 years recent experience as a legal clerk, paralegal, or in a related HR/legal role.
• College diploma or university degree.
• Bilingual in French and English (written and spoken).
• Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality in all legal matters.
