Legal Assistant / Paralegal (Family Law)

About the role

Outset Law is a growing boutique family law practice in Vancouver seeking a dedicated Legal Assistant to support the firm’s founder. You will work across a variety of family law matters, from parenting disputes to complex property division, helping to streamline case management and ensure timely filings.

Key responsibilities

• Schedule court dates, mediations, discoveries, and hearings; communicate with court registries.
• Arrange court filings and applications; track court and limitation dates.
• Prepare and draft correspondence, court pleadings, trial briefs, and JCC memos.
• Assemble application records, case authorities, trial exhibits, and indexes.
• Maintain efficient file management, calendar, and email systems for the lawyer.
• Handle monthly billing and liaise with legal assistants, paralegals, opposing counsel, and clients.
• Perform general administrative duties as required.

Required profile

• Graduate of an accredited Legal Administrative Assistant program or equivalent experience.
• Minimum 1 year of legal assistant experience in family law.
• Familiarity with BC family law registry procedures and civil litigation practices.
• Strong verbal and written communication, organization, and attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritize high‑volume tasks, meet strict deadlines, and maintain confidentiality.
