Janitor – Housekeeping Main Complex (On‑call/Casual)

About the role

Baycrest Hospital is seeking a reliable Janitor to join its Environmental Services team on an on‑call, casual basis. You will work in the Main Complex, providing essential cleaning and maintenance services that support a safe, hygienic environment for patients, staff, and visitors.

Key responsibilities

• Steam clean and shampoo carpets
• Strip, wax, and seal hard‑floor surfaces
• Operate auto‑scrubbers, floor stripping and buffing machines
• Sweep, mop, and maintain all floor areas
• Manage waste collection and disposal
• Handle clean and soiled linen logistics
• Perform ladder work for high‑reach cleaning tasks
• Maintain exterior grounds and campus pathways
• Set up meeting rooms and special events
• Move boxes and furniture as needed
• Wash walls, windows, and perform terminal cleaning of patient rooms
• Clean washrooms, kitchens, and general areas while adhering to infection‑control protocols

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Previous housekeeping or custodial experience preferred
• Ability to lift up to 23 kg and push/pull up to 20 kg
• Comfort working in extreme weather conditions when outdoors
• Strong interpersonal and customer‑service orientation
• Effective communication skills

Required skills

• Operation of ride‑on and walk‑behind auto‑scrubbers
• Floor stripping, waxing, and tile sealing techniques
• Safe use of ladders for elevated cleaning tasks

What we offer

• Hourly pay ranging from $27.20 to $27.73 (CAD)
• On‑call / casual work schedule
• Union‑represented position (SEIU Service)
