IT Consultant - Legal & Public Sector

About the role

Matrix, a boutique consulting and professional services firm, seeks experienced independent IT professionals to join its contractor network as Information Technology Consultants for legal and public-sector clients. Contractors receive project-based assignments from Matrix based on client Work Orders, covering technology strategy, infrastructure assessment, cybersecurity, systems optimization, digital transformation, vendor evaluation, data governance and other technology consulting services. Assignments may be fully remote, hybrid or client-site, and may require travel to law firms, government offices, courts, tribunals, corporate offices or other locations.

Key responsibilities

• Assess IT infrastructure, systems and controls, identify improvement opportunities and prepare recommendations and roadmaps aligned with client objectives.
• Support infrastructure modernization, cloud adoption and migration, and digital transformation projects, including systems integration and architecture.
• Assess cybersecurity controls and risks, support data governance and privacy assessments, and escalate major security or privacy concerns.
• Support technology platforms such as legal practice-management, case-management, document-management, electronic discovery, secure file-sharing, workflow automation, enterprise applications and cloud platforms.
• Assist with vendor evaluations, requirements gathering, proposal review, implementation planning and project governance.
• Prepare technical assessments, executive summaries, system documentation, risk assessments, status reports and briefing materials for non-technical stakeholders.
• Manage projects independently, track progress on the Matrix online project-management platform, and coordinate with Matrix advisors and client stakeholders.

Required profile

• 5-10+ years of IT consulting, technology management, systems, infrastructure, cybersecurity or related experience.
• Strong understanding of IT infrastructure, cloud environments and cybersecurity principles.
• Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience supporting technology projects, implementations or transformations, and strong analytical, documentation and reporting skills.
• Ability to work independently and handle confidential information with discretion.
• Project-based independent contractor engagement; contractors manage their own projects, taxes, insurance and business expenses.

Required skills

• Asset: Microsoft 365, Azure, AWS, cloud infrastructure, identity and access management, enterprise applications, document-management systems, legal practice-management platforms, records-management systems, network infrastructure, information governance and data-management platforms.
• Asset: experience with law firms, courts, tribunals, government ministries, regulatory or healthcare organizations, and familiarity with legal and public-sector technology environments.
• Asset: certifications such as CISSP, CISM, PMP, ITIL, Microsoft, AWS or CompTIA.
