About the role

Join the City of Hamilton’s Public Works team to support water and wastewater treatment operations. You will work in a dynamic environment, applying your technical expertise to ensure reliable instrumentation performance while upholding safety and environmental standards.

Key responsibilities

• Perform troubleshooting, repair, and preventive maintenance on instrumentation equipment at water and wastewater treatment facilities and outstations.
• Calibrate and maintain chlorine analyzers, pressure and flow transmitters, and other chemical instrumentation.
• Operate pumps, valves, and process controls; conduct testing procedures and maintain equipment logs.
• Work safely in varied climatic conditions, at heights, in confined spaces, and with potential exposure to treatment chemicals.

Required profile

• Valid Provincial Instrumentation & Control Technician 447A licence (or ability to obtain).
• Apprenticeship experience in calibration, testing, troubleshooting, and predictive maintenance of water/wastewater or large industrial instrumentation.
• Operator‑in‑training certificates for Wastewater Treatment, Wastewater Collection, Water Treatment, and Water Distribution (or ability to obtain within probation).
• Valid Class G driver’s licence with a clean record.

Required skills

• Instrumentation & control systems, including pneumatics, hydraulics, and electronics.
• Calibration and troubleshooting of analytical instruments.
• Predictive and preventive maintenance planning.
• Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and asset management software such as Hansen and Enterprise Asset Management.
