About the role
We are looking for a pragmatic, business‑oriented In‑House Legal Counsel to support the growth and increasing complexity of our hospitality and wellness platform. The successful candidate will act as a strategic legal partner to Finance, Operations, Development, and Executive Management while also providing occasional support to Human Resources.
Key responsibilities
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements such as management, vendor, licensing, partnership, branding, and technology contracts.
- Support corporate governance, subsidiary structuring, intercompany agreements, mergers, acquisitions, and integrations.
- Assist with real‑estate matters, including leases, ground leases, development agreements, and construction contracts.
- Coordinate legal aspects of real‑estate transactions and financing structures with external counsel.
- Ensure compliance with hospitality, consumer‑protection, privacy, health and safety regulations; identify risks and propose mitigation strategies.
- Manage trademarks, brand protection, and licensing strategies, overseeing filings, renewals, and enforcement.
- Serve as primary internal contact for external legal advisors and manage legal budgets, progressively internalizing recurring work.
Required profile
- Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) or Juris Doctor (J.D.).
- Member in good standing of the Barreau du Québec or another Canadian law society.
- 5–8 years of experience in commercial, corporate, or business law, either in private practice or in‑house.
- Proven ability to draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements.
- Strong understanding of corporate governance, compliance, and risk management.
- Excellent judgment, autonomy, and ability to manage multiple matters in a fast‑growing environment.
- Fluent French with strong written and verbal skills; bilingualism in English is a significant asset.
