Indirect Tax Analyst – Hybrid (Montreal)

About the role

Stella-Jones is seeking an Indirect Tax Analyst to join its North American tax team. The role supports compliance with U.S. Sales and Use Taxes and Canadian GST/HST/PST, ensuring accurate filings, audit support, and process improvements. It is a hybrid position based in Montreal, with two days on‑site and three days remote.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and review U.S. Sales and Use Tax and Canadian GST/HST/PST returns.
• Reconcile indirect tax general‑ledger accounts and post related journal entries.
• Analyze tax notices, liaise with tax authorities, and resolve issues promptly.
• Conduct data analysis and tax research to stay compliant with evolving regulations.
• Assist with government audits and tax authority reviews.
• Support implementation of new tax technologies and process enhancements.
• Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of U.S. and Canadian indirect tax legislation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
• 2+ years of accounting or finance experience, preferably in industry or consulting.
• At least 1 year of hands‑on experience with Canadian indirect taxes; interest in U.S. Sales and Use Tax is a plus.
• Fluent in English and French, with strong written and oral communication skills.

Required skills

• Advanced Excel proficiency.
• Experience with ERP systems (SAP experience is a strong asset).
• Familiarity with tax determination engines.
