Indigenous Education Coordinator

About the role

The Indigenous Education Coordinator works under the Assistant Superintendent, Indigenous Way of Life, to guide schools in implementing the Mamàhtawisiwin framework. This position creates culturally proficient learning experiences that move teachers from awareness to competency in Indigenous pedagogy.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with teachers to integrate Indigenous content and best‑practice strategies into curricula.
• Support schools in developing and executing Indigenous Academic Achievement (IAA) plans.
• Facilitate Community Schools (CSP) and Building Student Success with Indigenous Parents (BSSIP) programs, including planning and reporting.
• Identify, acquire, and distribute instructional materials and community resources.
• Model effective in‑class strategies and provide on‑site coaching for teachers.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Education and a valid Manitoba Teaching Certificate (or eligibility).
• Demonstrated knowledge of provincial curriculum, Mamàhtawisiwin policy, and Indigenous worldviews.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and facilitation abilities.
• Valid Manitoba driver’s licence with willingness to travel extensively, including overnight stays.
• Lived experience with Indigenous history, truth‑and‑reconciliation calls to action, and collaboration with Knowledge Keepers, Elders, and community members.
