IFRS & Consolidation Accountant – Hybrid Contract (Toronto)

About the role

The client’s Chief Accountant Department, part of a major bank, is seeking an experienced accountant to support the preparation of consolidated shareholder reports and regulatory filings under IFRS. This 12‑month hybrid contract (four days onsite in Toronto) offers the opportunity to work on complex accounting topics such as financial instruments, consolidation and structured transactions.

Key responsibilities

• Act as subject‑matter expert on IFRS issues, including financial instruments and consolidation.
• Review new business and product proposals, perform IFRS 9 business‑model and consolidation assessments, and advise on accounting implications.
• Conduct technical accounting research, benchmarking and analysis; prepare memos and presentation materials.
• Assist in the preparation of external consolidated shareholder reports (MD&A, financial statements, notes, supplemental information) and propose enhancements to disclosures.
• Stay current with IFRS pronouncements, deliver periodic technical updates and draft accounting policy updates.
• Provide timely, practical accounting advisory services to internal finance partners and external auditors.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with finance, risk, product control, investor relations and external advisors.
• Perform ad‑hoc tasks to support the team as needed.

Required profile

• Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation or in the final stage of certification (one exam remaining).
• Demonstrated experience applying IFRS guidance and advising on accounting policy.
• Background in a large financial institution or Big Four accounting firm.
