Home Care Nurse – Iqaluit

About the role

The Government of Nunavut is seeking a Home Care Nurse to provide nursing and support services to elderly, chronically‑ill and disabled residents of Iqaluit. Reporting to the Nurse Manager, the incumbent will promote optimal functioning in activities of daily living while respecting client privacy and cultural values.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and modify client care plans based on assessed needs and prescribed medical regimes.
• Ensure implementation of care plans and monitor patient progress.
• Provide direct nursing care and support services to patients throughout the life cycle.
• Build rapport with clients, caregivers and families while maintaining confidentiality.
• Promote optimal levels of functioning in activities of daily living.

Required profile

• Bachelor of Nursing degree.
• Minimum two years of related nursing experience.
• Valid driver’s licence.
• Eligibility to register with the College of Nurses of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut (CNNN) before the start date.
• Successful criminal record check and vulnerable sector check.
• Preference for candidates who are Nunavut Inuit and for recent graduates of the Nunavut Arctic College nursing program accepted into the Graduate Nursing Residency Program.
• Knowledge of Inuit culture, Inuktut language and experience in a northern cross‑cultural environment considered assets.

Required skills

• Effective communication in English; additional proficiency in Inuktut or French is an asset.
