Heavy Equipment Operator – Street Operations

About the role

The Heavy Equipment Operator joins UBC's Street Operations crew within Municipal Services. The role involves operating specialised heavy equipment, performing maintenance and supporting construction projects across the Vancouver campus.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance and asset‑management tasks, interpreting drawings and specifications.
• Conduct regulatory asset inspections, condition assessments and generate reports using asset‑management hardware and software.
• Maintain accurate data for billing and reporting, and keep daily operation and inspection log books.
• Operate specialised equipment such as backhoes, snow‑clearing machines, Hiabs and hi‑lifts.
• Carry out minor construction work, including repairs, removals, replacements and installations.
• Collaborate with other crews and trades as required, following safety regulations and sustainable practices.

Required profile

• Physical ability to perform labour‑intensive tasks and operate heavy machinery safely.
• Willingness to undergo training specific to Street Operations and Municipal Services.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, receiving daily assignments from the Street Operations Head.
• Commitment to adhere to safety regulations and environmental standards.
