General Machinist / Tool and Die Maker

About the role

O-I, a global manufacturer of glass packaging for food and beverage brands, is hiring a General Machinist / Tool and Die Maker in Brampton. The role is full-time and is posted for an existing vacancy. After completing training, the machinist modifies and repairs mold equipment and operates CNC machines.

Key responsibilities

• Modify and repair mold equipment, mold holders, fixtures and jigs
• Set up and operate Haas CNC mills and lathes
• Perform bench operations such as blending, shaping, matching cavities, cavity relief and pantograph work for standard numerals and monograms
• Change the design or capacity of molds according to customer demands

Required profile

• High school diploma or GED
• General Machinist 429A or Tool and Die Maker 430A license from the Ministry
• Desire to learn and grow into the Journeyman position
• Ability to lift equipment up to 50 lbs and to work overtime, including weekend and overnight shifts, and 12-hour continental shifts
• Mold repair experience preferred (plastic injection, glass)

Required skills

• Precision measuring devices such as calipers, depth gauges and micrometers
• Lathe setup and machining skills
• Vibrating tools such as grinders
• Reading blueprints
• CNC setup and programming with G and M codes is an asset
• Welding and fabrication experience is a plus
