General Duty Nurse – Thoracic/Vascular Surgery (A3)

About the role

The Registered Nurse (RN) will provide professional nursing care to patients in the Thoracic/Vascular/PCU‑S unit of the Health Sciences Centre. Working under the Manager, Health Services, the RN delivers independent nursing services, administers prescribed treatments, and leads the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, coordinated patient care and discharge.

Key responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive assessments and deliver nursing interventions for complex surgical patients.
• Administer medications, IV therapies, and other prescribed treatments.
• Coordinate patient care plans with physicians, allied health professionals, and support staff.
• Participate in discharge planning and patient education.
• Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to unit policies and provincial regulations.

Required profile

• Graduate of an approved Registered Nursing program.
• Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM).
• Preference for surgical experience.
• Commitment to the organization’s vision, values, and professional standards.

Required skills

• ECG monitoring and rhythm analysis (to be completed within 12 months of hire).
• Progressive Care Unit competencies (to be completed within 18 months of hire).
• Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification per employer policy.
