General Duty Nurse – Thoracic/Vascular Surgery (A3)

About the role
The Registered Nurse will provide professional nursing care on the Thoracic/Vascular/PCU‑S unit at the Health Sciences Centre. This full‑time position supports patients with complex surgical needs, delivering independent nursing services, medication administration, and leadership within the care team.
Key responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care to surgical patients, including assessment, planning, and evaluation.
- Administer prescribed medical treatments and monitor patient responses.
- Lead and coordinate the multidisciplinary team to ensure safe, efficient patient discharge.
- Maintain accurate documentation and adhere to unit policies, procedures, and regulatory standards.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and uphold the organization’s vision and values.
Required profile
- Graduate of an approved Registered Nursing program.
- Active registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Manitoba (CRNM).
- Completion of an ECG Monitoring & Rhythm Analysis course within 12 months of hire.
- Completion of a Progressive Care Unit course within 18 months of hire (or sooner at manager’s discretion).
- Surgical experience preferred; active involvement in professional nursing associations is an asset.
