Front Desk Manager – Conferences & Accommodation

About the role

The Front Desk Manager oversees multiple front‑desk locations supporting Conferences & Accommodation services at UBC’s Vancouver campus. The role leads a team of Customer Service Representatives and Front Desk Supervisors, ensuring smooth operations during the busy spring‑summer season.

Key responsibilities

• Manage daily operations of several front desks, handling guest inquiries, reservations, and accommodation issues.
• Supervise approximately ten Customer Service Representatives during the winter term and additional staff at residence locations from May to August.
• Coordinate with the Rooms Manager, Residence Front Desk Services Coordinator, Residence Life Managers, and Building Services Managers to resolve maintenance and student‑related concerns.
• Provide 24‑hour operational support, including after‑hours emergency response and problem‑solving for sessional staff.
• Maintain high service standards, address challenging guest situations with diplomacy, and ensure compliance with university policies.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in hospitality or front‑desk management, preferably in a university or conference environment.
• Strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate and guide a diverse team.
• Excellent communication, conflict‑resolution, and customer‑service abilities.
• Flexibility to work extended hours, weekends, and on‑call duties during peak periods.

Required skills

• Proficiency in using front‑desk and reservation software systems.
• Ability to operate a cellular telephone for 24‑hour support.
