First Nations Lawyer - Indigenous Law

About the role

A Vancouver practice with a significant Indigenous law group is seeking a lawyer to advise First Nations clients on governance, treaty and related matters. This is a confidential search: the identity of the hiring organization is disclosed only to shortlisted candidates.

Key responsibilities

• Advise First Nations governments and organizations on legal matters, including governance and treaty issues
• Support negotiations with government and industry stakeholders
• Draft agreements, policies and legal opinions for Indigenous community clients
• Build and maintain long-term relationships with First Nations clients
• Collaborate with colleagues across related practice areas such as lands, resources and litigation

Required profile

• Called to the Bar in British Columbia, in good standing
• 5+ years of experience in Indigenous law or a closely related field
• Genuine interest in and sensitivity to working with Indigenous communities
• Willingness to travel to community meetings as required
