Financial Analyst – Budget & Planning

About the role

The Financial Analyst supports campus‑wide budgeting, forecasting and financial reporting for UBC Okanagan. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Budget and Financial Planning, the role provides data analysis, hypothesis testing and system training to aid decision‑making.

Key responsibilities

• Develop templates, collect data and prepare quarterly and annual budget/forecast reports for consolidated reporting.
• Investigate variances, post adjusting journal entries in Workday and Adaptive, and process funding transfers.
• Utilize data‑warehousing and business‑intelligence tools to create financial models, sensitivity analyses and "what‑if" scenarios.
• Perform reconciliations, support internal controls, and prepare research funding and indirect cost recovery reports.
• Assist Finance Managers with unit‑level budgeting, forecasting and ad‑hoc financial analysis.

Required profile

• Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline and enrollment in the CPA Professional Education Program.
• Minimum three years of relevant accounting/finance experience.

Required skills

• Workday and Adaptive Planning (or similar ERP) experience.
• Proficiency with data‑warehousing, business‑intelligence tools and financial software applications.
• Advanced Excel/spreadsheet skills and ability to build financial models.
• Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and UBC institutional accounting processes.
