Payroll Support Specialist (Part‑time, 0.8 FTE)

About the role

The Payroll Support Specialist provides front‑line payroll expertise and customer service to the UBC Okanagan campus community. Working closely with the Vancouver payroll team and internal stakeholders, the role ensures accurate payroll processing, timely issue resolution, and compliance with university policies.

Key responsibilities

• Administer payroll for Okanagan staff, manage schedules, and meet all deadlines.
• Serve as the primary liaison for staff inquiries, troubleshooting ServiceNow tickets and Workday notifications.
• Escalate complex issues to the Payroll Lead and coordinate with the Leave of Absence Desk.
• Analyze incidents, recommend process improvements, and maintain standard operating procedures for Workday payroll.
• Prepare and distribute confidential payroll reports, ensuring compliance with privacy laws and tax filing requirements.
• Process payroll‑related journal entries and support campus‑wide payroll training sessions.

Required profile

• High school graduation plus a two‑year post‑secondary diploma in accounting, finance or business, or equivalent experience.
• Minimum four years of payroll or related experience.
• Payroll Compliance Professional (PCP) certification (required).

Required skills

• Workday Payroll module proficiency.
• ServiceNow ticketing system experience.
• Payroll processing and payroll‑related accounting software.
• Microsoft Excel and general computer literacy.
