Executive Director

About the role

The Caribou Guardians Coalition is seeking an Executive Director to lead its network of Indigenous partners supporting the Bathurst caribou herd. This is a contract position (30 hours/week) running until March 2026, with the possibility of extension.

Key responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and oversight for teaching, learning, sharing, fundraising, and administrative initiatives.
• Build and maintain respectful relationships with northern Indigenous leaders and community members.
• Represent the organization to media and external stakeholders.
• Manage projects, budgets, financial reporting, and accountability.
• Lead fundraising efforts and ensure fiscal sustainability.
• Facilitate conflict resolution and promote collaborative decision‑making.
• Apply knowledge of barren‑land caribou ecology to program development.

Required profile

• Demonstrated senior leadership experience.
• Proven ability to work respectfully with Indigenous communities in the North.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and supervisory capabilities.
• Experience speaking to media and handling public relations.
• Solid project‑management, fiscal‑management, and fundraising background.
• Effective conflict‑resolution skills.
• Knowledge of barren‑land caribou ecology.
• Self‑motivated, able to work independently and remotely with reliable internet.
