Executive Director – Calgary Community Services

About the role

The Executive Director will lead Calgary Community Services for The Salvation Army, overseeing a large, multi‑site social services operation that includes shelter, housing and community programming. This senior role provides strategic direction, ensures alignment with the organization’s mission and values, and drives operational excellence across all service areas.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and oversee a multi‑site social services operation through senior leaders and cross‑functional teams.
• Provide strategic vision for program delivery, organizational standards and evaluation frameworks.
• Drive continuous program improvement, innovation and mission alignment across multiple service lines.
• Manage budgets, monitor expenditures and provide financial oversight.
• Oversee data, performance metrics and evaluation processes to enhance service outcomes.
• Ensure compliance with organizational policies, standards and legislative requirements.
• Build and maintain relationships with community partners, government agencies, funders and stakeholders.
• Represent the organization externally, including media and community engagement.

Required profile

• Proven senior leadership experience in a complex, multi‑site social services environment.
• Demonstrated ability to work with vulnerable populations and navigate shelter and community services challenges.
• Strong stakeholder engagement skills with community partners, government and funders.
• Experience in financial management, budgeting and performance monitoring.
• Commitment to the mission, values and regulatory requirements of a faith‑based nonprofit.
