Energy Conservation Engineer

About the role

UBC Energy and Water Services is seeking an Energy Conservation Engineer to develop and implement measures that dramatically reduce energy use and greenhouse‑gas emissions across the Vancouver campus. The role combines technical design, project management and performance monitoring to support UBC’s sustainability leadership.

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, implement, monitor, verify and report on Demand Side Management projects from concept through completion.
• Read and write sequences of operation and BMS code to troubleshoot and optimise building systems.
• Conduct peer reviews of energy system designs, engineering drawings, specifications and contractor deliverables.
• Monitor and evaluate emerging sustainable energy technologies.
• Prepare and update sustainable energy management plans and long‑range infrastructure plans.
• Collect, analyse, model and report building energy and GHG performance data.
• Research best practices and develop policies, standards and procedures for sustainable energy system design, maintenance and operation.
• Provide expertise for major project design, climate plans, green building initiatives, sustainability reporting and behaviour‑change programs.

Required profile

• Proven ability to manage energy‑conservation projects from concept to delivery.
• Strong understanding of building systems and greenhouse‑gas reduction strategies.
• Experience collaborating with internal teams and external contractors.

Required skills

• Building Management System (BMS) programming and sequence‑of‑operation development.
• Energy modelling and performance analysis.
• Data analysis and reporting for energy and GHG metrics.
• Demand Side Management implementation.
• Knowledge of sustainable energy technologies and standards.
