Emergency Physician – Nanaimo, BC

About the role

Island Health’s Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking board‑certified emergency physicians to join a progressive, collegial group of more than 20 physicians in Nanaimo, BC. You will work in the busiest emergency department on Vancouver Island, providing acute care to a diverse patient population.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver comprehensive emergency and trauma care to approximately 70,000 annual patient visits.
• Lead and coordinate the emergency and trauma teams during high‑acuity events.
• Participate in departmental administration, education of residents and medical students, and research initiatives.
• Collaborate with major specialty services to ensure seamless patient management.
• Maintain high standards of clinical documentation and quality improvement.

Required profile

• Board certification in Emergency Medicine.
• Eligibility to practice medicine in British Columbia.
• Previous experience in a high‑volume emergency department is preferred.
• Strong commitment to teamwork, education, and community health.
