About the role
The Community Health Centre in Nanaimo seeks a licensed practical nurse, registered psychiatric nurse or registered nurse for casual, as‑needed shifts. The role supports primary care, harm‑reduction and HIV/HCV services, working with diverse clients including people who use drugs, LGBTQIA2S and Indigenous populations.
Key responsibilities
- Provide assessment, intake, education, referrals and follow‑up for OAT, primary care, STBBI, PrEP, PEP and enhanced harm‑reduction services.
- Deliver care to individuals with high levels of poly‑substance use in diverse settings such as drop‑in centres, shelters, overdose prevention sites and community parks.
- Conduct screening, wound management, mental health and sexual health assessments, and administer medications as ordered.
- Provide harm‑reduction support including naloxone training, distribution of supplies and overdose prevention education.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team to develop and monitor individualized care plans and ensure seamless support with community partners.
Required profile
- Current full registration with the BC College of Nurses and Midwives as LPN, RPN or RN.
- 2–3 years of nursing experience with people who use polysubstances, including OAT medication dispensing and overdose response.
- Experience working with LGBTQIA2S, Indigenous and gender‑diverse communities.
- Demonstrated commitment to harm‑reduction, trauma‑informed, anti‑racist and decolonial practice.
