Emergency Medicine Physician – Port Alberni, BC

About the role

We are seeking qualified Emergency Medicine Physicians for part‑time and full‑time positions at a modern hospital in Port Alberni, British Columbia. The role offers the opportunity to work in a 52‑bed acute care facility with a 3‑bed ICU and a 24‑hour emergency department.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive emergency medical care to patients of all ages.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams including anesthesiology, surgery, psychiatry, internal medicine, pediatrics, and radiology.
• Participate in on‑call rotations and may cover additional shifts at the regional Emergency Department in Nanaimo.
• Engage in teaching and mentorship through academic affiliation with the University of British Columbia postgraduate and Island Medical School undergraduate programs.

Required profile

• Board‑certified or eligible in Emergency Medicine.
• CPSBC USA certified registration acceptable.
• Ability to start as soon as possible.
• Commitment to serving a community of 18,000 residents with a strong focus on patient care.

Required skills

• Proficiency in emergency clinical assessment and management.
• Experience with acute care procedures and use of medical imaging (CT scanner, PACS).
• Strong interdisciplinary communication skills.

• Fee‑for‑service compensation model with potential additional remuneration under the Rural Subsidiary Agreement.
