Emergency Medicine Physician (Part‑time/Full‑time)

About the role

West Coast General Hospital is looking for qualified Emergency Medicine Physicians to join its team on a part‑time or full‑time basis. The position is based in Port Alberni, with occasional shift coverage at the regional Emergency Department in Nanaimo.

Key responsibilities

• Provide high‑quality emergency care to patients of all ages in a 24‑hour Emergency Department.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary specialists including anesthesiology, surgery, psychiatry, and radiology.
• Participate in teaching activities linked to the University of British Columbia postgraduate and Island Medical School undergraduate programs.
• Maintain accurate medical records and adhere to hospital protocols and regulatory standards.

Required profile

• Board certification in Emergency Medicine.
• CPSBC USA certified registration (or equivalent) accepted.
• Eligibility to practice medicine in British Columbia.
• Willingness to work in a community‑focused hospital environment.

What we offer

• Fee‑for‑service compensation model with potential additional remuneration under the Rural Subsidiary Agreement.
• Retention premium of 7.98% and a flat retention fee of $12,367.
• Relocation funding up to $15,000 and recruitment incentive up to $10,000.
• Continuing Medical Education allowance: $2,200 per year (years 3‑4) and $4,400 after four years.
