About the role
The Director of Lands and Resources provides overall leadership for planning, funding, negotiations, development, delivery, financial management and administration of Yuuˈłʉˈłˈatˈh Government lands and resources programs. Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer, the role oversees a multidisciplinary team and ensures alignment with the government’s vision, mission and values.
Key responsibilities
- Lead the development, funding, implementation and evaluation of lands and resources programs, establishing goals, objectives and performance indicators.
- Recommend and administer program and policy frameworks, ensuring they meet the needs of Yuuˈłʉˈłˈatˈh citizens and promote community engagement.
- Partner with Human Resources on staffing, recruitment, onboarding, performance management and succession planning.
- Oversee departmental work planning, monitor progress against objectives and manage performance reviews and corrective actions.
- Collaborate with the CFO to manage departmental finances, prepare the annual budget, funding proposals and financial reports.
- Administer funding agreements, monitor financial performance and ensure timely program reporting and record‑keeping.
- Participate in strategic planning, foster inter‑departmental cooperation and provide briefings to senior leadership, the legislature and the hitacu Assembly.
Required profile
- Bachelor’s degree in Natural Resources Management, Environmental Science or related field (Master’s preferred).
- 8–10 years of relevant experience, including 2–3 years in a management role.
- Proven experience developing and managing natural resource and environmental programs and policies.
- Experience researching, developing and managing funding proposals.
- Preferred experience working with First Nations and delivering culturally appropriate land and resource management programs.
