Laboratory Team Leader – Microbiology

About the role

Bureau Veritas is seeking a Laboratory Team Leader to drive high‑quality microbiological testing in its Ottawa Microbiology Laboratory. You will lead a team of analysts, ensure accurate, defensible data, and support continuous improvement of laboratory processes.

Key responsibilities

• Perform advanced microbiological sample preparation, culture, identification and enumeration techniques.
• Manage sample flow, prioritize workload, and meet client holding‑time requirements.
• Mentor and coach junior staff, provide technical expertise, and act as Lead Hand in the supervisor’s absence.
• Develop and update SOPs, work instructions, and contribute to method verification and validation.
• Maintain strict adherence to quality, health and safety policies and perform daily audits of records and equipment.
• Identify non‑conformances, propose corrective actions, and drive process improvements.

Required profile

• 3‑5 years of experience in water or environmental microbiology testing, preferably as a Senior Analyst.
• Proven ability to mentor and train junior laboratory staff.
• Strong problem‑solving skills, able to work independently and under pressure.
• Excellent communication, time‑management and teamwork abilities.

Required skills

• Advanced microbiological techniques (culture, aseptic handling, identification, enumeration).
• Proficiency with Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for data entry and record keeping.
• Competent in microbiological sample preparation and related quality‑control procedures.
