Course Lecturer – Jewish Studies 1: Biblical Period

About the role
The Department of Jewish Studies at McGill University seeks a qualified scholar to teach JWST 211 – Jewish Studies 1: Biblical Period during the Fall 2026 term. The position involves delivering in‑person lectures and guiding students through both Biblical and non‑Biblical texts of Judaism’s formative era.
Key responsibilities
- Deliver two weekly 80‑minute lectures (Tuesday and Thursday) in Leacock Building, Room 15.
- Prepare and present course materials covering the Hebrew Bible and related Ancient Near Eastern literature.
- Assess student performance through assignments, exams, and class participation.
- Maintain office hours for student consultation and academic support.
- Contribute to departmental meetings and curriculum development as needed.
Required profile
- PhD in Biblical Studies, History of Interpretation of the Tanach, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated experience teaching the Hebrew Bible at a high academic level.
- Ability to teach both survey courses and focused studies on specific biblical books.
- Authorization to work in Canada and willingness to work in Quebec.
- Proficiency in English communication, both spoken and written.
Required skills
- Expert knowledge of Biblical and non‑Biblical Jewish texts.
- Effective classroom teaching and presentation skills.
- Capability to design and evaluate academic assessments.
