Course Lecturer – Inuktitut Orthography & Grammar (Fall 2026)

About the role

The Office of First Nations and Inuit Education (OFNIE) at McGill University seeks a qualified Course Lecturer to deliver the Fall 2026 session of EDEC 289 702 – Inuktitut Orthography and Grammar. This short‑term contract involves intensive teaching in Kuujjuaq, focusing on both Roman and syllabic scripts.

Key responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver lectures on Inuktitut structure, morphology, and orthography.
• Adapt course materials to the cultural and social context of the Kuujjuaq community.
• Coordinate with OFNIE staff for curriculum alignment and logistical planning.
• Provide feedback and assessment for pre‑service teachers enrolled in the course.
• Ensure compliance with Quebec Education Program competencies and Indigenous pedagogical standards.

Required profile

• Master’s degree (or equivalent professional experience) related to Indigenous language education.
• Expert knowledge of Inuktitut orthography (qaliujaaqpait and qaniujaaqpait) and grammar.
• Familiarity with the Quebec Education Program and the 13 professional competencies of the Ministère de l’Éducation.
• Understanding of colonial impacts on Indigenous communities and experience applying equity‑focused teaching methods.
• Proven experience teaching in Quebec elementary schools, Indigenous communities, or similar settings.
